The summer Olympics have become so crucial to the fabric of our world culture that only two world wars and serious political conflicts between the world’s superpowers at the time (the USA and USSR) were serious enough reasons to lead to the cancellation of any of the Olympic games. Despite the involvement of politics; the use of performance-enhancing drugs by some athletes; and the involvement of multinational corporations and enterprises; the meaning of the Olympics remains (or should remain) sacred.
